The Team
Who we are: The Team behind Ecosail Karlsruhe
EcoSail Karlsruhe is powered by a dedicated team of students from Hochschule Karlsruhe, united in their mission to innovate sustainable sailing. With backgrounds in engineering, materials science, and business, our team tackles the complex challenges of eco-friendly boat design for competitions like the 1001VELA Cup and the upcoming SuMoth Challenge 2025.
Our team members are divided into key areas: Design & Engineering creates efficient, sustainable boat concepts; Materials & Sustainability ensures over 70% of the boat uses natural or recycled materials; Manufacturing brings designs to life with precision; and Marketing & Sponsorship shares our journey and secures resources.
With recent achievements at the 1001VELA Cup 2023 (3rd place for Best Design, 1st in the Paolo Padova Cup), we’re now focused on building our next-generation hydrofoil boat for the SuMoth Challenge. Each member is driven to prove that sustainability and performance can go hand in hand. Follow us as we prepare to make an impact!

The Team of the 2024 1001VELACUP
The 1001VELACup 2024 has come to a close. It was a challenging regatta week in the Gulf of Trieste, with rough and unpredictable weather conditions testing both the equipment and the skills of the skippers.
Our student team HKA KM-Packaging Sailing Team from the Hochschule Karlsruhe (HKA) / University of Applied Sciences faced multiple capsizes, which ultimately resulted in the failure of the rudder mount. Despite these setbacks, we are thrilled to have secured second place for Best Boat Design and an overall 8th place finish in the 1001VELACup Trophy.
A heartfelt thank you to the 1001VELACup Association, Università degli Studi di Trieste, and the Yacht Club Adriaco for organizing the 17th edition of the 1001VELAcup Trophy.
